How to be happy
Â
For the longest time, Finland has been found to have some of the happiest citizens in the world. Despite their long, dark winters. A psychologist recently observed 3 main reasons for this.
1. Don’t compare yourself to others
Be the best you can be. Every day is a little better than yesterday. Don’t concern yourself with what others are doing. And how wealthy they seem. Focus on yourself, and set your own standards. Aim rather for happiness, instead of striving for success and impressing others.
2. Remember the benefits of nature
Nature provides us with peace of mind, energy and relaxation. Stepping outside for a walk, enjoying the simple sound of singing birds can lower your heart rate and increase your sense of wellbeing. Even a few plants in your home can help revitalize you.
3. Think community
Happier citizens don’t only consider themselves, but think of others in their community as well. Trust is built when you show up for those around you. So find ways to be involved, even in small ways, to build a better community around you. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a difference, like opening the door for someone, or giving up your seat for an elderly person on public transport.
